Tradition tells that Plato placed an inscription at the entrance to his Academy: Let no one enter who is not a geometer. For the Ancient Greeks, Geometry was not merely a mathematical discipline but an awareness of the opposition between man and the cosmos. In Plato’s philosophy, that opposition was represented by the Cube — the domain of humanity's rational thought — and the Sphere, the domain of the cosmos and the home of the divine.

SPHERE³ II holds these two Platonic forms in a single object, making the human and the divine codependent. Both solids are dematerialized: the cube is transparent, the sphere mirrored. Neither can achieve material reality without the other. Generative sound and video sustain the geometric tension atmospherically, letting the visitor inhabit what the eye would otherwise dismiss as a simple given.

Sound by Alexander Zaripov.
